My husband and I were treated to dinner here by my stepdaughter and her boyfriend, because I'm gluten intolerant. It's nice to know that there is a place we can go to where I can indulge in a large variety of gluten free items. They have one of the largest gluten free menu's I've seen. When the busboy put the bread down, he made to stress to me that it was regular bread, so I knew not to have any. I didn't partake in any of the appetizers, but the others enjoyed the calamari. I ordered the gluten free Pasta Primavera with olive oil and garlic. The pasta was cooked perfectly even though they used a bit too much oil without enough garlic. My highlight of the whole meal was the gluten free cup cake I had for dessert! It was a vanilla creme filled cup cake that was a delight to savior! I would recommend this restaurant to any one who must follow a gluten free diet. BTW, while I didn't order one, I did see on one of the other tables that they do offer gluten free bottled beer.

This place is awesome! I love their gluten free menu. I have had a lot of items on it since I have celiac and they are all good! This is my go to place from now on and the staff is always so nice! We ordered late one night and I felt bad since it was snowing out and the driver was so nice to come out in this horrible weather. I am glad I found this place!

So this is probably more a 4.5 star than a perfect 5 star, but there are no major faults, so bumping it up instead of rounding down. First, I made reservations. Apparently, they still seat first come, first served, anyway...so it didn't matter that we made a reservation (unless you know the family because we saw several "reserved" table signs...just none of them were for us). Waited about 20 minutes to get seated with only 1 other party in front of us. Basically, we had to wait for others to finish and leave. That was probably the only annoyance we had that night. Onto the food...we chose this place because of its vast gluten free selections. While we were waiting, we saw gluten-free sugar cookies up front. Got a box of those. Then after we were seated, we ordered some gluten-free appetizers. Best one was the bruschetta. Yum! All entrees come with soup or salad - but only the salad is available gluten-free. Their gluten free alfredo sauce is amazing. However, we found their gluten-free pizza a little too doughy. As for dessert - the gluten free cream puffs are filled with cannoli cream, which I am NOT a fan of. However, their gluten free tiramisu...AMAZING is putting it mildly. It was perfect. Everything that a tiramisu should be...could not even tell it was gluten-free. Overall, we were not disappointed, and we'll definitely be back to try more delicious gluten-free food.

We heard about the gluten free menu and headed for River Grove on a Saturday night. Our party of six ordered appetizers, entrees, soups, salads, drinks and dessert. The gluten free pasta and bread was excellent, and the gluten free tiramisu was outstanding! Adults had pasta and salmon, and the kids had spaghetti. The calamari was quite good. I will definitely go back. The waiter was a young man who was busy but still made sure to check on us. The owner/chef came out often to talk to customers and make sure they were happy with the food and service. What a great place! Only one issue for me - high noise level made it difficult to communicate with all at the table. We parked right outside the front door - that was nice.

Last night I dined at DaLuciano's for the first time and it did not disappoint! I have been GF for over a year and the one thing I miss the most is calamari and I am pleased to say their GF calamari was better then what I remember the regular calamari being. Vey plump and fresh squid with the perfect texture, this is a must have. We moved onto the salad, which is a very simple salad, but covers the essentials of a great salad ...fresh, crisp and cold, along with homemade creamy garlic dressing, that's all ya need! I had the GF eggplant parm ....and my my my, it had been so long and I loved every bite! And the bonus is, I had enough to bring home for a meal for two for tonight...heat it up and make a fresh salad...done:). A lot of reviews rave about the tiramisu even the GF version, which we had and I wasn't a huge fan, I felt the cake part was a bit dry. I prefer the cake to be a little moist soaked with the liquor, but I also am not a huge tiramisu fan either, so based on that I would trust the reviews of others for this dessert. We enjoyed a couple glasses of house wine, didn't do a bottle because my cousin and I drink different wine. I had the Cabernet and for $5 it did it's job we'll enough, complemented my food and added to the experience. The table directly behind us was a large round table with about 5 older Italian men, eating, drinking wine and speaking Italian...even though it was a little loud, I completely welcome it, they added to the atmosphere..for a moment if I closed my eyes, I could feel like I was in Italy. Turns out Luciano, the owner and chef was sitting there and later in the dinner he stepped over to introduce himself and ask how everything was. This is always the perfect touch to a great dining experience. Our waiter was very nice and it is a relief to dine somewhere where you feel not an ounce annoying asking for a GF menu...ahhh mama has found her new home ;) You DO NOT have to be GF to enjoy this place, it is simply just and extra perk for those that are GF. Can't wait to go back, well done DaLuciano's cheers!

As a rule, we only go to Italian places that have sandwiches and lemon ice. Never for dinner. I consider myself spoiled by this area where i bet you can get any ingredient you'd want or need from Italy. This place is probably the best Italian food I've ever eaten. I have had real Nonna food enough to know what good is! This family loves their food. So we have yet to dine in....like I said we don't do dinner....but we order from them for most special at home dinners!! Not that it's expensive. It's not! It's because their food is the best of its kind in an area with many authentic options. Gratzie mille! Ps I've just done reviews on a bunch of ethnic places and this is the only 5 star :)

Once again having dinner at Daluciano's.This place is always good.I usually have my favorites like the Chicken Casilinga or Linguini with Black Mussels.Today I ordered something different than my norm.It was the Gnocchi al Pesto. And it was delicious. They have a good pizza as well but I usually order the entrees when I come.Gets pretty busy on weekends so reservations are recommended if you dont want to wait an hour or more for a table.

Gluten Free Friendly and Gluten Free Awesomeness! So many restaurants claim to be gluten free "friendly" but their gluten free food is mediocre compared to the rest of their menu. Da Luciano takes equal care of their gluten free customers and produces GF food you would never know if actually gluten free! Da Luciano's is amazing, real home-cooked Italian food. Its the kind of Italian you cannot replicate at home. Huge portions, al dente pastas, slow simmered sauces, and great pizza. The restaurant is a bit unassuming from the outside but you almost feel like you are in Italy when you sit down. The walls are lined with family photos. Just like a ristorante in Italy, just with a bit more space. If you have never been and are a celiac, this is your place. Having 4 children with Celiac disease means they unfortunately know what you are going through. Rest comfortably... they have SEPARATE kitchens. No cross-contamination worries. Their gluten free menu is almost as big as the regular menu. They have gluten free garlic bread, gluten free calamari, and a list of gluten free pastas (where most have a single pasta option). Oh and the best part, as if the rest wasn't already awesome, they have gluten free tiramisu and cannolis!!! Do yourself a favor and make the drive out.

I've been coming here since high school with my family. We love it! It's a family owned restaurant and run by the family themselves. I'm so happy that they did the expansion a few years ago. I definitely recommend the bruschetta and any pasta dish. This restaurant will not disappoint you.

Thanks fellow Yelpers for suggesting this old school neighborhood restaurant close to O'Hare w/o getting on a highway. I would rate it 3.5 for meeting expectations and a place to return. Was a bit nervous passing the motels but the neighborhood changed near the restaurant. I was looking for someplace to enjoy an early dinner and to wait for rush hour to pass before heading to Yorkville. Chef seemed to know everyone and lots of Italian being spoken there. Wished my waiter had reviewed the specials with me - the ravioli at the next table looked yummy. Fresh hot Italian bread, I devoured linguine with clams galore! Several large parties of men dining there-maybe from work? Polite staff -good service. Even offer a gluten free menu! Wish I had room for homemade cannolis- maybe next time! Enjoy

Great gluten free food and regular food too! My husband and I went here tonight based on the reviews, and both of us are glad we did! The gluten free bread is amazing. Hands down, the best texture bread I've had in the decade I've been gluten free. The gf mozzarella wedges were also delicious and the perfect texture. The main courses they serve are very large - I had the gf pasta alfredo, and my husband had the chicken cacciatore. We both thought they were excellent (and are looking forward to the leftovers.) The gluten free noodles have a great taste and texture. Not mushy, gritty, or anything like that. The wait staff was also super friendly and helpful. Really the only thing I would change would be to make sure to ask for light dressing on my salad because my lettuce was drowning, but that's just a personal preference. We ended up being too full to try any of the desserts, but we will be back! Next time I'll try one of their gluten free pizzas. Oh and make sure to make a reservation, because the restaurant is pretty small and was very packed (understandably!)

This is a "must" any time I am in town. The food is excellent which is why t is always very crowded. Best to make advance reservations. Very good gluten-free menu. They even have gluten free cannoli! Everything I've ever had here has been delicious. great place to enjoy family, fiends and good food.

This time, instead of going in the store, we decided to have delivery to our place. Again, the person taking our order over the phone was friendly, and the wait-time wasn't long at all. I finally veered away from the delicious vodka sauce and tried something else. This time I ordered the Rigatoni alla Toscana (picture available) which is rigtoni noodles with sundried tomatoes and mushrooms in a thick alfredo sauce. The sundried tomatoes and mushrooms were the perfect compliments to the alfredo sauce; they were thick and full of flavor. As usual the meal came with pieces of bread and a house salad. My dad ordered the Linguini con Calamari. Long linguini noodles in a tastey red sauce. The calamari was cooked very well, large pieces scattered in the dish. I know all of this because I ate what remained in his bowl when he went for a cigarette (that's what he gets!). :) And lastly, I had to try the chicken parmigiana sandwich. This thing is MASSIVE. Literally conquered my entire plate. The chicken parmigiana was overflowing the bread itself, which made it difficult to eat, so plan on being a little messy. But the breading was good, cooked right, not too brown, with a thick layer of melted mozzarella and red sauce. Overall, again, to no surprise, I was satisfied.

Being gluten-free (GF), people always ask me what are the two things you miss eating most. My answer is always: pizza and pasta. A family engagement outside the city led me to Da Luciano for dinner. It was a Saturday night and the dining room was at capacity with a lot of people who seemed to be regulars. After a short wait, we were seated. Usually when I ask for a GF menu, I'm handed a leaflet that has 3-4 options. At Da Luciano, the GF menu has appetizers, entrees, desserts, soups, and a giant selection of pastas. What a welcome surprise! Upon reading the menu, the owner wrote that 4 of his 6 children have celiac, so he has diligently worked on perfecting pasta beyond the ho-hum brown rice pasta that you find at most GF Italian restaurants. Based on my entree, he has perfected GF pasta! My girlfriend and I both had Pasta Boscaiola (pasta with mushrooms and Italian sausage)--I had the GF option, and she had the regular. We both enjoyed it, but I was all smiles while and after eating mine. It actually resembled the taste and texture of pasta that I loved--something that I haven't really experienced since going gluten-free. They also had a nice wine selection with plenty of affordable options. Every dish that went past us and to other tables also smelled and looked delicious. I'm thrilled that I discovered the place and can't wait to return!

I really want to like this place! I have been to Da Luciano about six times in the last year. One of the more memorable times was back in early December 2011 I ordered the Mussel appetizer special which was wonderful and full of garlic. I also ordered the Pasta special which was a spaghetti with mussels, clams and shrimp. Both were outstanding ! This place is inconsistent with SERVICE! I went back to Da Luciano on Dec 16, 2011, two weeks later and it was HORRIBLE! When we arrived, the place was about 3/4 Full but most tables were at the end of their meal, it was 9PM, two hours before closing. I have spoken to other people in the area and they agree. They food is Great for take out but the SERVICE dining in is a crap shoot.

I was so excited to try this place. The reviews were good, the location convenient, the atmosphere seemed nice and homey and they had $5 house wine! It all went downhill after we ordered, however. The restaurant was pretty empty but the service was still horrible. Our waitress was scarce to be seen during the over-an-hour time it took us to get our food. At one point, about 40 minutes after ordering, she informed us that our entrees were coming "soon". No apology but at least she showed her face. Unfortunately the entrees came over 20 minutes later. WITH NO APOLOGY. No recognition of the long wait, nothing. At that point we were very hungry and a little annoyed and honestly, the food did little to make up for it. We just wanted to eat fast and get out of there. Maybe you have to be a regular to get decent service? Not really sure but I'm certainly not coming back when there are plenty of options in the area.

It was just awful. 1st time here for me. Met a friend that has been here many times and always had good reviews. I had the pesto gnocchi, daughter had mushroom risotto and my friend had one of the specials, a chicken in balsamic gravy. The gnocchi and the risotto was swimming in oil. I've never seen this much oil for these types of entrees. My friend had to send back the chicken after one bite, it tasted as if it was undercooked or microwaved 1/2 way. He said he never has had to send back food here. No one asked him why, they just took it back and replaced with a fish entree. He asked if the owner/manager was around. he has talked with him before, but he was not at the restaurant that night. I felt sick that night and again the next day, so I will not be going back.

Bring your loose fitting pants and get ready to be full. As a gourmand, I love this place. OMG the portions. I eat a LOT, and went away full with take home for lunch the next day. We were part of a large party, and the waitstaff was extremely attentive and accomadating. I would absolutely eat here again, I think I will bring my kids here. I heard the pizza is good too. I will try that next time, perhaps. Very happy to have found this place. They do not have any TV's here, and I think that this is a good thing.

Upon the urging of family, we came here for an amazing Italian dinner! It was later (8-ish), so we were seated immediately (though I could see on a busier day how this could be a problem, there was hardly any waiting space). Immediately, we ordered the seafood platter, which consisted of octopus, calamari, and shrimp (maybe mussels too...) tossed with spinach, butter, garlic and lemons. I like to say I'm adventurous, so I tried them all. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the consistency of the octopus, and obviously I loved the shrimp. I guess I'll never get used to the chewiness of calamari. The whole platter was delicious and I would definitely recommend it as an appetizer to share with the table. We also got a dozen baked clams, bathed in buttery-garlic goodness, and though I don't really enjoy the consistency of clams, I could have dragged bread through that sauce all night. For our meal we ordered the veal limone, grilled tilapia with asparagus (not on the menu), shrimp diavolo with linguine, and the shrimp special (which was shrimp in linguine, arugula, and some veggies, tossed in a light red sauce and oil). Had I not shoveled appetizer after appetizer, salad and bread, down the hatch I probably would have eaten the whole bowl, it was GREAT! I tried the other shrimp meal and the tilapia, the first was good and spicy, something I'm sure heat-lovers would enjoy, the tilapia was only so-so but it was made with little seasonings (I guess that was the point of getting it). The asparagus on the side was, however, great. (I should start getting veggie sides more often...) The portions were huge and the service was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Being so full, I unfortunately couldn't try any desserts. I did however try the light Italian beer, Moretti, which matched nicely with the dinner. I would like to return to try more entrees and indulge in the seafood platter once again, as well as save some room to try the tiramisu.

One of the prettiest patios in the Chicago area. My fiance's sister is gluten-free and we were headed to a haunted house down the road and wanted to find a place for dinner. I had heard that this was one of the best places in Chicago for GF food. The rumors were true - she was about to cry tears of happiness because she could eat mozzarella sticks for the first time in three years. The food is amazingly fresh and wonderful. We all had pasta (1 GF and 2 non-GF). Each dish tasted homemade and like nothing came from a can. Our dessert of cannoli was freshly filled (very important) and was very light. I have to mark off one star because the man who answered the phone when I called to make a reservation was extremely rude. P.S. You need to make a reservation!

I just love this restaurant. My son has Celiac Disease, so he does not eat a lot of Italian food because wheat pasta is off limits At Da Luciano's, everything is offered both gluten free and regular. All of it is truly delicious food and everyone in our family can enjoy. We take a huge order to go for our freezer too. Definitely worth the hour long drive for us to enjoy really delicious food.

I heard about this place from one of the guys that works at Wildburger in Des Plaines and my husband and I have now been to Da Luciano's twice and had a great experience both times. I have Celiac and my husband loves Italian food so this place is perfect for us. They have an extensive gluten free menu with a lot of Italian favorites which is hard to find and my husband has raved about their non-gluten free offerings as well. I would absolutely recommend Da Luciano's to anyone looking for good Italian food and especially for those who eat gluten free.

Maybe it's just me, I don't know, but I did not feel welcome at all when I went there with a friend of mine. We walked in and the place was pretty busy as usual (I've ordered take-out before) but no one greeted us when we came in. We literally stood near the register area for about 4 minutes before the lady behind the counter even said anything to us. And that was only because someone else came in and, apparently, we were in the way. Then another 3 minutes until we were seated at a table that had been empty when we walked in. Did not feel comfortable at all, not even during the meal. I took more than half of it to go. The food was good as usual but I would really think twice before ordering from them again. I mean, if I'm not good enough to dine in your restaurant then why the hell would I give you my money for take-out or delivery? I would give the food on its own 3.5 stars but I had to deduct for customer service.

I don't normally hit up restaurants that are not in Chicago, because I am a foodie snob and cannot seem to find a 4 or 5 star restaurant in the suburbs. We are lucky to have a ton of restaurants in the city to choose from, but I kept an open-mind and met up with a friend who lives several blocks from this restaurant. She was going to order pizza from here, and we were planning to eat "in" at her place, but she suggested we walk over and have dinner at the restaurant instead. This restaurant serves northern Italian cuisine. I had never heard of this restaurant before, so I didn't have any preconceived expectations. Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was how small it is and the ambiance is understated. It also appears to be in dire need of an update. The service was MIA, but we had a pleasant server. Instead of ordering pizza, we decided upon pasta dishes. We ordered the following: Linguini with Black Mussels (with a choice of tomato sauce or garlic and oil) and the shrimp Diavolo and Linguini. We noticed lots of people ordering pizza on the evening that we went. The pizza was obviously ubiquitous. Our food was sub-par but not entirely unacceptable. Based on this, I have to rate it at three stars. The bread was excellent. I soaked up the garlic and oil with the bread which was very delectable. The bread receives four stars, while the service gets two stars. The portions were munificent.

Terrible. One star....the canoli was good. I have never had worse service. Our waitress was rude and unattentive. But I don't know how she could possibly be attentive because she was the only server waiting on two huge parties and three tables. But here is the kicker..... There was staff everywhere... I counted 8 people in de Luciano shirts, bus boys mostly, who were only filling water. There was a bartender and some other guy, who we eventually begged to get our drinks refilled. But they were all hanging out while the crappy rude server struggled to attend to everyone. Don't try and ask her a question, or expect to get asked how your food is, or if you need a drink. Just get your water filled every ten seconds by a bus boy, shut up and eat. But let's talk about the food. Appetizers....meh. Salads...meh. Soup....well that was actually pretty good. We all ordered seafood pasta dishes. And all of them stank of seafood. just overall poor quality. The calamari was the worst... Fishy rubbery bands lumped over pasta. I probably would be in a better mood had I had some more wine, unfortunatey the refill I ordered never came. So I am sticking with one star. Drive 5 minutes east, and enjoy a real Italian dinner on Harlem. There are so much better options.

I've been to Da Luciano with my family twice for a dinner and both visits very positive. These two times we have ordered a pizza. What is really nice is that they allow you to switch the ingredients on your pizza, if you don't like something. They are more than happy to assist you. Pizza dough is very delicious, thin and crispy. I also like their home-made sauce because it's not too heavy, like it sometimes happens at other pizza places. They also have many other things to offer such as pasta, seafood, chicken entries and risotti. What I found really interesting is that they also have gluten free menu. They are in really convenient location, right on 1st Ave and Grand, and they also have an easy-access parking. It looks like it is a family business, which makes the atmosphere at this restaurant really homey. The service is also great and extremely friendly

My husband is gluten free so we really love this restaurant because they prepare many gluten free pasta dishes in addition to above average regular pasta dishes. We have never tried anything bad here. We dined here recently and were pleasantly surprised to find they added gluten free fried calamari to the menu! I haven't seen it anywhere else and it is terrific! I hope they keep adding these types of items to the menu. We really appreciate them! We have never had a problem with the wait or the service but we have only been here a handful of times. The decor is casual and classic Italian. Very charming.

Sicilian heaven. A small, family owned Italian joint a bit off the beaten path(for me, anyways). Yeah, you probably have to make reservations, and yeah, you might still have to wait a little bit. But the food is fantastic. I had the shrimp al diablo, and have been craving it ever since. The service is slow, but in a good way. You certainly won't have the feeling of being rushed, so go with good company, as did I. It's a bustling, boisterous place that will you will leave wanting to go to Italy. It's really moderately priced as well. If you want a gluten-free menu, they have that as well (though I didn't try it).

Most of the food was amazing. The minestrone soup tasted like it came from a can and my friend ordered a Cesar salad and got ice burg lettuce with Italian dressing a little Parmesan and anchovies. I actually think that the salad was confusion on the part of the server. The pasta knocked my socks off as well did the stuffed artichokes and the creme puffs. The server seemed more like a bus boy filling in as a server. That being said, I will give it another try and hope for a better server. The cork fee was a very reasonable $5.

I've been here before and thought the food was good, it was even better since they were very accommodating to a gluten free diet. That said- my experience last night was very, very disappointing. Let's start by saying I made a reservation the night before for a table of 4 at 7:30. Part of our group gets there a little early and mentions that we have a reservation and was told, "it should be about 5 minutes". I arrive on time and tell them the same thing only to see them flip through their reservation book then give me a confused look, "hmm, well it should only be 5 minutes, we have people leaving..." Clearly they didn't put down my reservation, but you know, that's okay, I'll wait a little bit. 30 minutes later when we are the only people in the restaurant standing, besides the servers, we still have not been approached by ANYONE. We're standing there catching up and waiting to eat, I'm not standing for my health! We calmly ask one more time about how long it will be only to receive a rude answer. Nothing near what it should have been. I made a reservation to avoid the wait and all these problems. You should have apologized and tried to make an arrangement to fix this but you just ignored us- thank goodness it was only a group of 4 and not 8! I'm just saying, you handled this poorly and I am very disappointed. There wasn't any effort in trying to keep us there either. I'll be sure to let everyone I know about this and I can assure you, this place will not come up for a company Christmas party again for a few years. Disappointed.

What is this place, this "River Grove?" It is, according to the 2000 census, a village of over 10,000 souls. Of those, 92.25 percent are White. Of those, 89 percent are Italian and own banquet halls. The remaining 11 percent are Polish and run cosmetology schools. To get there, just drive west on Fullerton through the vast terra incognita of west-side Chicago, cross the railroad tracks and Badabing! you are in an episode of the Sopranos. Track suits, orange tans and interesting Nancy Sinatra-like hair sculptures abound. I was in this little world apart due to a friend playing at Club Amore on Grand. We arrived when they were just setting up, so we headed out again in search of dinner. Fortunately, Da Luciano was only a few blocks away, tucked between a Polish cosmetology school and a barber shop where a crew of furiously-smoking kids loitered. The atmosphere was what one would expect: extremely well-lit (romance? fugettaboutit), an acoustic drop ceiling and cafeteria quality cutlery. The most aesthetic feature of the main dining room are the old b&w family photos covering the walls. Wine is sold by the glass, and we both ordered a perfectly serviceable Syrah. When I finally tucked in to my giant platter of Arrabiata, I felt a little abashed. It was great! The spicy tomato sauce was fresh and peppered with big chunks of garlic. My companion demolished his linguini with white sauce and mussels, which he pronounced "delicious." After we finished, the dignified Materfamilias brought us our espresso with a nod and only the slightest of smiles--perfetto, as we are strangers and it would be inappropriate for her to be too chummy, chapiche?

My girlfriend is gluten-free, and this place is unreal! I actually order gluten-free meals because they are soooo good! Try the best seafood platter around for under $20. You cannot go wrong in this very nice little restaurant whose staff makes you feel great! The entire family works there and each of them are wonderful! GO GO GO!! It is the best Italian place around.

It's rare to find a restaurant that has gluten-free entrees much less one that has a full menu of gluten-free pasta, pizza and other entrees as well as desserts. The service is always wonderful and the prices reasonable for the portion sizes. You'll want to make a reservation as the place is often full.

Food is super-delicious...but the service is super-slow. If you're willing to be patient, you will be rewarded with an outstanding meal. This place is very popular, but they don't seem to have enough staff to keep things rolling on a busy night. Parking can also be tricky it it's a busy night. If you're ordering take-out, just tack on another 15 minutes to the time they estimate. Again, the food is DELICIOUS! They're just so sloooooowwwww.

One of the better Pizza's in the Chicago area, and certainly one of the best meatball sandwiches I have ever had next to Mom's, but three of us ate there last night and I have to say it was really bad - great service, great salad and bread, excellent grilled Octopus and calamari, great wine, but my Chicken Limone sucked - it had the consistency of whitemeat chicken in Chinese Food and it seemed like someone didn't know what they were doing in teh kitchen - the other diner had Da Luciano's version of steak - covered in a weird grey sauce and smothered in mushrooms - looked great, tasted like crap. The other diner had Eggplant Parm - nice sauce, nice cheese, too greasy tasting. I have eaten there before and their pasta dishes are what I would stick with, the rest is not good. Sorry, only being honest. The waiter was very nice and honest - when he asked how I liked it, I told him it was really bad - he comp'd 3 deserts for us which was really nice! The Tiramisu and the Canolo were fantastic and deflinitely home made - the Tartufo was made at a factory (Bindi) which was still very good. If they only served Pizza and Pasta I would give them a higher rating.

I really had high expectations since I ate here two years ago and loved it. I am a bit of a pasta snob at home I make my own fresh and I know that this isn't always practical when it comes to such a busy restaurant but I do expect the sauce to bring everything together. I was a little disappointed it just wasn't that great. We ordered the calamari to start and it also really seemed to lack in flavor. The calamari was cooked perfectly but the breading was just so plain. I'd really like to give it another try and will. I do want to say the service was excellent our waiter came to check on us several times without hoovering and you could tell he was busy with his other tables as well.

Trying to find a restaurant where you can take a child with multiple food allergies (gluten, casein, eggs, soy, peanuts and corn) proves to be so much of a challenge and hassle, that typically I opt to not eat out at all. Da Luciano's was recommended to me by several people and I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is small but the staff cooks to please big time! It is a family-owned business that started cooking and serving gluten free italian food after someone in their own family found out they had the intolerance. I must say, their food is excellent! The traditional dishes and the gluten free! The servers were very attentive and the staff was happy to explain the ingredients used in the dishes. If they couldn't answer you, they would send out one of the owners. Great food. Reasonably priced. Nice family restaurant. I enjoyed the food and desserts (I honestly couldn't taste the difference from the gluten free pastas and desserts!) When you can please a picky 7 year old who can't eat much and he licks the plate clean while smiling from ear to ear. Well, that's all the proof I need. Thank You Da Luciano's for doing all that you do and cooking great italian food for those who don't get it eat it as often as they would like. A hidden gem. Recommended!

I decided to try Da Luciano because my mom has Celiac disease and I had heard they served gluten-free dishes that you could not even tell were gluten-free. Well, I heard right. Her entree included pasta and salmon and the bite I tried was delicious. I had the lovely glutenous linguine with mussels and it was superb! What was even better is that most of the dishes on the menu are under $17. I am giving it 4 stars just because the restaurant is tiny, so if you don't have a reservation (which we did), you might be waiting for over an hour!

It can be difficult to get a good gluten free meal in a restaurant without worrying that your food might be contaminated or the chef might inadvertently add a gluten-containing ingredient. That's not going to happen, however, at Da Luciano, which has a large gluten free menu with Italian classics including pasta and pizza. The GF pizza, while "personal" sized, has a fantastic crust that's both crispy and soft where it's supposed to be, just like a wheat-flour based crust. There are also a lot of GF battered deep-fried items, like mozzarella sticks, that are indistinguishable from the "real thing." Service here is friendly and attentive. It really has the feel of a family restaurant and I'm looking forward to visiting again soon.

First time here and it won't be my last.... our meal was delicious!!! The atmosphere here was cozy and casual. Everyone here was extremely polite. Also parking was easy... you can park across the street (as long as you're facing the restaurant) without any problems. Let's start off with the appetizer, we had the grilled calamari and shrimp which was delicious that we order two servings of it. We ordered the 12' pizza for my boys which was also yummy. But the best part of the night was our main course... my husband and I split their special of the evening which was linguine with mussels, clams, scallops and arugula in a light tomato sauce... it was amazing!!! We finished our dinner with some canolies (sp?) which were also good. We will definitely come again! Great for the whole family!! Btw they also offer a gluten free menu which offers a wonderful array of food.

This is a favorite for my GF friend, so I wanted to check it out with her. She loves the full GF menu they offer, and I was happy with my pick as well. I went with a salad and the meat ravioli and it was tasty and filling. It's newly decorated and has a nice atmosphere. It fills up fast so get there early or make a reservation.

Nothing makes me happier than Da Luciano's restaurant. Seriously. I discovered it several years ago upon being diagnosed with celiac disease. It's out in the 'burbs, but not super-far, and I really love the intimate, familiar setting... every time I've eaten there, everyone knows everyone else - it's like a massive extended family, and that's great to be around, even as a little outsider :) i went most recently about a week ago, after a long hiatus, and everything is the same, if not better. the staff is still the same, which says something for the management, you know? and the chefs/other family members still come out and chat w/ diners. but o, man, the FOOD. the FOOD!! it.. is.. SO. GOOD. some places' gluten-free menus are about 4 items long. this menu is about 4 pages! they offer everything from gluten-free pizza to pasta to lasagna (o, heaven!) to all the italian appetizers you've been missing (bruschetta! garlic bread! FRIED MOZZARELLA!!) to cream puffs and tiramisu.. they have gluten-free beer.. they have frozen gf stuff to take home... ok, it's heaven. it's heaven. i love it. make sure, if yr heading out from the city proper, that you call first to make sure they're open and to MAKE A RESERVATION (they fill up quickly, and empty out slowly). also, the service is a tad on the slow side, but when yr in pig-out heaven, who really cares? by the way, non-celiacs love it, too. the people I've eaten there with (er, nice grammar) were vegan and vegetarian, respectively, and they both did fine. okay, go!

We have a dear friend who is GF and she has raved about Da Luciano's to us many times. Now that we live very near by the restaurant we decided to set up a girls night out and check it out. The food is simply wonderful - we started with a small GF thin crust pizza which was very tasty. The sauce was out of this world, the crust could have been a little crispier but it was still good. We definitely want to go back and try the non-GF just to see how that tastes. Everyone was pleased with their dinners. From veal parm, pasta prima vera (we had vegetarians with as well, the trout Friday night special and a sea food pasta special everything was delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable since the portions are ridiculously large sized so we all took food home. We ordered a couple of deserts both GF and non-GF and they were all tasty. They even brought out their killer tiramiso on the house. We were seated right away, although we did have a reservation. The restaurant was full but there were some empty tables. Service in general, while good is a tad slow but we were really enjoying each others company so we didn't mind. Our server Josephine, handled our group very well - we had lots of questions and lots of non-typical orders with no problem. If you're there for a quick meal it's probably not the best place to go. This European style dining - eat, drink, talk and relax, they definitely will not rush out the door. Verdict: We'll definitely be back again. The food is tasty and offers delicious choices regardless of what food allergies or types of food people are looking for. Great place to take friends who all have different food needs. Can't wait to try more items on the menu.

Great food. Was reffered by a friend of mine. Most people dont like it, but we ordered Tripe (cow stomach lining). It was made in a red tomato sauce. excellent. also tried baked clams, and a pizza topped with Sausage and Garlic.....SOOO GOOD.

What a complete waste of a Saturday night. The calamari was good but it was all downhill from there. All three people in the party ordered minestrone but the waiter brought two minestrone and one chicken soup. Rather then simply getting a third bowl of minestrone soup the waiter argued that someone ordered the chicken soup. The shrimp and broccoli was terrible the shrimp just were bad tasting with a unique texture. The broccoli was good but the noodles were cold and hard, not aldante but more like they were left in the strainer and just got hard over time as they dried. The taste of the butter and garlic sauce didn't exist. While you could see the garlic cloves in the noodles you couldn't taste it at all. Rather than order dessert we just paid the bill and left discussing why I left a 20% tip for such a waste of time. unfortunately I need to complain more often then I do.

This is a great neighborhood place. It has recently expanded to accommodate more diners. I am never disappointed when I go there. The gluten free options are great and it is a very family friendly restaurant. Pretty much anything you want made to order.

All I can say is I have been here probably six times and I have always had a great meal with awesome service. A word of advice -- the place is small and popular so reservations are highly recommended. I have them in my cell phone for the moment anyone says they are in the mood for Italian I can make the call.

Don't waste your time and money with the gluten free pasta at Maggianos. Da Lucianos has the most extensive and delicious gluten free menu I've ever experienced. I've never really cared for Italian food, but it's probably because it always made me sick. Da Lucianos has made me realize that Italian food actually is delicious and every time I go here, I end up stuffing my face.

Awesome. Couldn't decide what to eat so our waitress had the chefs make me something off-menu. Girlfriend loved the gluten free pasta, and the little man loved the spaghetti with marinara. Being from the city, you'd think I wouldn't travel out west for Italian food. You're wrong. It's worth the trip. Make a reservation though, as the place is tiny and tends to fill up quickly.

Be prepared to wait. A long, long time! And phone in reservations don't seem to help. The space is so small, so cramped that there's only so much they can do to accommodate. That said, the gluten-free food is outstanding. I ordered the gluten-free cheese ravioli and it was a delight. I took some gluten-free cupcakes to go and was shocked that they were so light. They've certainly mastered the art of working with the assortment of gluten-free bases -- tapioca starch, potato flour, rice flour, etc. The regular food, from what I was told by other diners in my party, was not as outstanding. Pretty ordinary tasting pasta that hardly seems worth the relatively steep price tag. On the subject of price... prepare to be hosed for eating gluten-free. The difference in price is significant. Regular pasta $10.95 and the gluten-free stuff is $14.95, on average. Which is a shame, considering they make just the one gluten-free pasta option for that day. You aren't paying the premium because it's ALL being freshly prepared each day and the ingredients cannot possibly be so much more expensive to warrant a $4.00 mark up. The family is friendly and seem to thoroughly enjoy their jobs and the customers. Of course, they are also doing a killing. The place is hopping!

Terrible service...Terrible attitudes...Just decent pizza. NEVER order take out from this place because they will screw it up almost EVERY time! The owner is great for making excuses as to why they constantly make errors, but he is not very good on making it up to his customers. AVOID this place!

I'm gluten-free and the rest of my family is not. This is a fantastic option for anyone in my situation. The food is really good and the gluten-free options stand up to anything filled with gluten. In fact, the gluten-free tiramisu is the BEST I've ever eaten. Better than ones with gluten. They worked some magic that's beyond me and I'm craving it still. My boyfriend, who eats all the gluten I miss, simply couldn't decide on what to eat--too many great options. So he asked the waitress for a recommendation and the cook fixed him a special pasta dish that's not on the menu. It was incredible!!!!! Pancetta, pasta, garlic, pepper flakes. I was so jealous because I couldn't have a bite! I expected a long wait after reading other Yelp reviews, but we had a 7:00 reservation on a Friday night and were seated by 10 minutes after--very reasonable. The service is relaxed. Don't expect to pop in, eat and pop out. They're nice people and don't rush anyone. Decor leaves some to be desired, but it's great for a group, dining with kids or taking older folks out. Not a good date place. My one reservation is the salad. Iceberg? Really? Really? With a lot of vegetarian options and great gluten free, could you not at least bust out some romaine?

This place is great! I have celiacs disease so eating out on a gluten free diet is not always fun, but this place makes you forget about your gluten free diet and allows you to order what you want for change! Their food is so good I wish I could go there more often! Anytime I have dinner with any other gluten free friends or family I be sure to take them here because I know they will appreciate all their choices!! The only change I hope for is more locations!!! Great food and GREAT for people following a gluten free diet!!

I ate here at a party and liked the food so on New Years Eve we decided to get carry out. We ordered pizza, pizza bread, broiled chicken and fried ravioli. They said it would take 40 minutes. We got there 35 minutes later. Mr. Daluciano came out and said it would be about 10 more minutes because of the chicken. It took an additional 30 minutes. With no apologies or additional explanation. I called in the order at 7:10 and we left at 8:30. When we got home 10 minutes later, the chicken was still warm, but the rest of the food needed to be reheated. I do not recommend the pizza, pizza bread or fried ravioli. Even warmed up these were unimpressive. I certainly will not get carry out again although I might try the restaurant.

Da Luciano's is a good Italian restaurant with decent pizza--not great--they skimp on the cheese and the pizza sauce is not very good. Some standouts on the dinner menu are their chicken Marsala and tortellini panna--and that's about it. Their marinara sauce (used on most of the pasta dishes which call for a red sauce) tastes fresh but really lacks flavor. The calamari is very good (light breading--very tasty) but the price has steadily gone up and the portion has shrunk so that an order now consists of roughly a small handful of octopus--and for the $10 price tag, it just isn't worth it. The homemade tiramisu is good and one of the more fairly-priced items on the menu. When Da Luciano's first opened some 5-6 years ago, the prices were very reasonable and the owners knocked themselves out to cater to the customer. However, a year or so back, the restaurant was featured on "Check Please" and their prices went through the roof; the food quality dipped and the portions got smaller. Very disappointing. Unlike most of the reviewers here, I just do not think that the prices they charge correspond to their location (across the street from a 24-hour convenience store and sandwiched between a dive bar and a manicure salon), food quality and portion sizes. Adequate Italian food for the neighborhood (not a ton of choices for restaurants in River Grove) but definitely not good enough to go out of your way for.

Although this restaurant's main attraction is from those who have Celiac disease, this place has pretty good food. The place is closet size small so you will need a reservation and they have two menus for those living with and living without (wheat). The menu isn't very extensive- basic italian chicken and veal dishes and some pretty good pasta, BUT everything is made in house. For those living without- the restaurant has a to-go menu of their in house frozen goodies for you to take home!!!

Went here for a bitter-sweet dinner with my ol' chum Hannah and our now mutual friend Deanna. It would be the last time we'd see Hannah for awhile, as she was moving out to LA the next day. So, what better way to send her off than to head out to River Grove in her already-packed car (i love sitting in a backseat with a cat-carrier on my lap! :) and have some nice Italian? As a bonus, they have a menu that caters to people who are gluten-intolerant. I, unlike Deanna, am tolerant of everything and everybody; I'm not entirely sure why she is so damn intolerant of gluten, but I digress. I have another friend who is gluten-intolerant, so it's nice to know of places that are friendly to those of us who have food allergies / intolerances. I ordered a pasta dish (yes, i know -- specific. give me a break; it's been a while since we were there. i know, i know, i should've written this review sooner, but i've been busy / lazy, pick one) in a cream sauce. Very filling, but tasted a little bland. To their defense, I guess that's what I get ordering a cream sauce. I wound up with leftovers, but it didn't work out so well the next day. I'm a big fan of eating out for several different reasons. One of the main ones is the company I'm with when I do. This was definitely the highlight of this meal. It was great hanging with Hannah one last time for a long time, but the real highlight was seeing the look of pure glee on Deanna's face as she looked over a menu of foods that she wouldn't otherwise be able to eat and hadn't eaten in forever. She seemed awestruck that she was actually eating pasta, cream puffs and tiramisu in a restaurant. As we were seated, our server went through the menu and specials expertly. He was pretty attentive during the meal, but once we were finished with dessert we had to wait FOREVER for anyone to even pay attention to our increasingly obvious signs that we were looking for the bill. I have a little tip meter in my head that starts working as a reverse taxi cab meter once I'm forced to wait for an exorbitant amount of time following a meal, especially when one of the patrons needs to be out of there to attend to pressing personal issues. They weren't too busy that night, there was only one other group in the restaurant by the time we were finished, so I don't know what the problem was. All in all, this place was pretty damn mediocre. Really, the only reason I'd go back would be if I had a gluten-intolerant friend who wanted to go. Otherwise, there are plenty of better restaurants closer to home.

Here is an excellent, little, family owned/run, Italian joint in Elmwood Park that has a large gluten-free selection as well as a traditional menu. Yes...I did say Italian!! Some of owner's children have Celiac disease, and they came up with recipes to make for them. There are articles and pictures on the wall telling of their journey. Luciano the owner/chef...yes he's real, comes out and meets and greets. The food...excellent! I always have the special, usually a fish or shrimp and pasta. Save room for dessert!! The Tiramisu and the Cannoli, homemade and delicious!! The place is TINY, I strongly recommend reservations. . They also have carry out, I noticed a lot of neighborhood folk coming into pick up their pizzas. Which BTW I have to try next time I go!!

We only recently started eating at Da Luciano's because we heard so many good reviews for years, but each time we went we had to wait for a table and would leave. But they expanded and we have been lucky to get a table and each time the food, service, friendly staff & owners just make the dining experience a pure pleasure. Now I thought it couldn't get better until this week. We were not too hungry but learned that the owner added additional seating - on the back patio. The patio which is away from traffic, not like most other area restaurants with dining on the sidewalk next to cars and traffic. The soothing waterfall, nice plantings, and the live koi in the pond is so relaxing. We ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer and Antipasti plate for a light dinner followed by an incrediable Lemoncello parfait - a lemon gelato with lemoncello poured over it. What a delightful way to end a light meal. Don't let this summer pass by without enjoying a nice day/evening on the Da Luciano's Patio. But you may need to make reservations because everyone now will be there!!

Finally got to go here with a friend for a late lunch. It's a bit of a cruise to get to, but was totally worth it. They have a HUGE gluten free menu and a gluten free take out menu complete with frozen versions of things like chicken fingers and tiramisu! I had ravioli for the first time in two years, it was spectacular. And, even tho I live far the frozen stuff made it home and was also delicious. Will definitely be going back to try more things. Wish they were closer!

Sadly Da Luciano's has finally succumbed to "Check Please Disease". After a few positive reviews the portions have shrunk, the quality diminished and the prices risen. This establishment is no longer worth the trip. I hope the artards at Check Please are pleased with themselves for ruining yet another fine eatery.

This place is simply amazing. Normally we have the food delivered, and on the few occasions we've decided to eat in, there was either no parking or a wait for a table. The food is awesome, and the portions are really generous. Normally I get the Cavatelli Caprese, though I've ventured into other pastas, and have never once been disappointed. The bread is really good, too. The delivery times are pretty reasonable, and the food always arrives piping hot. One of the best Italian places in the area.

I forgot to add this in there. I went back there the other day to pick up some food. I can't even remember what it was. I had been drinking a few beers, Bell's Amber Ale, good stuff btw. So When I got there I started talking with Manuel and Rafael for a bit while I was waiting for my order to come up. I think I was asking them about some of the wines they have there, and before I knew it he was pouring me a glass, on the house! Now how is that for hospitable service?! Excellent, these guys are great, very classy.

Overall, the food and service at Da Luciano's deserves 3 stars or so. But because this establishment has a gluten free menu and is very accommodating of people celiac disease, they definitely get 4 stars. I planned a large outing with some friends for some delicious Gluten Free dining here. They took my reservations and everyone was seated on time. Given the small size of the restaurant, I am very impressed with this. Granted, the seating was small and a bit cramped but it worked. Service was slightly slow, but I experience this at most restaurants because of my special gluten free requests. I was more than happy to wait for the delicious, Italian gluten-free food that I had ordered. I ordered the Gluten Free Pasta Toscana, which indicated a "light cream sauce" with sun dried tomatoes and gluten free pasta. I will be the first to say that the light cream sauce was not light by any means (but that is just me!) but it was delicious. Da Luciano's uses a gluten-free pasta imported from Italy that is corn- and rice- based. It was great! I really enjoyed the taste and texture. I took half my pasta home for the next day. I don't think I will order it again only because the cream is too rich for my taste. I will probably try the Gluten Free Pasta Arrabiata instead since it is a bit simpler and lighter. I did order some frozen Gluten Free items to take home, including: 2 cannoli, 1 tiramisu, 1 order of pizza bread, 1 order of homemade cheese ravioli, and 1 personal-size cheese pizza. Of these items, my husband and I have tried 1 cannoli, the pizza bread, and the personal cheese pizza. The cannoli is out of this world, especially for being gluten free! The pizza bread is tastier than the pizza. I think I will order a few GF bread items from Da Luciano's in the future but I am not sure if I will get the GF personal cheese pizza again (or only if I am truly craving pizza). A wonderful experience and I will be back! I applaud Da Luciano's for leading the way with an extensive gluten free menu and frozen dishes to put in the fridge.

Well, I saw this place the same day I saw it on Yelp! Last night, so I went and it was very good. I even brought goodies home. The Tiramisu is amazing so I made sure to leave it there to stop me from eating it daily. The cannoli danced on my tongue with a crust you would never know was gf. The waiter was very friendly, The girl who had to do my check for the take home stuff was KRANKY about it but I don't care I did not have to deal with her. I brought home cookies, lasagna, garlic bread, pizza bread. Amy, the food was worth the wait you should have given them at least 4 stars. People this is a must eat, now I am going to go and enjoy some cookies!!

Not all all familiar with the neighborhood, however , Yelped for nearbys. Da Luciano came up with favorable reviews. Stopped in and found reviews to be accurate. There is outdoor seating in a very nice patio/garden setting. It is comfortable and quiet from any traffic. Greeted very warmly at the door as if we were returning patrons. Waitstaff is very pleasant and attentive. Menu is sizable with nice variety. Mussel appetizer plate presented freshness and a savory sauce. One of us had linguine and clam sauce and found it to be above the norm of our experiences. The other had a beef tenderloin special in a spicy gravy. It was also excellent. Lemoncello parfait was delightfully refreshing. We are not nearby but have resolved to return even though it a good drive.

i recently endured six months on a gluten-free, casein-free diet and da luciano *saved. my. ass.* i could come in and order (almost) anything off the menu (and i would order as much as i could get my hands on, since i was so damn "yums"-deprived), and i didn't once have to explain what gluten was or why it made me sick. that fact alone was enough to win me over, but then add delicious food, and i was in italian heaven. if you order the g-free baked clams, add some lemon juice to the top. they instantaneously become delectable. and if you still don't like them, i will gladly take them off your hands. oh, and the g-free bread! there's nothing like it, and i know because i've tried it all. da luciano's, i wish i could (afford to) move in, and i wish you were closer to my digs. but 12 miles can't keep us apart. i'd crawl if i had to.

the food is top notch. seafood is outstanding and pastas are fantastic. the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the service can sometimes be a bit off. the servers can be a bit hurried and not so customer friendly. But the food..... forgetaboutit.....FANTASTIC!!!

Thank you YELP for finding this place for me!! I have recently been dealing w/some food allergy issues, and after ten days w/out any bread or pasta I was starving for something Italian. I stopped by here w/my kids and my sister to pick up a few things on my way home from Monkey Island tonight, and first off, don't go here hungry! I got two dishes (one for me, one for the hubby) for our dinner and took some frozen things as well. I had the gf pasta w/vodka sauce. It also had mushrooms and sausage. So delish! My daughter loved it (she's 3) and the portion was insane! We still have half in the 'fridge. Hubby had the regular manocotti and I didn't hear a peep as he finished it off. I also had a side order of gf bread (it didn't even make it home!) and the gf bruschetta. Yum! It was so good to have bread again! The frozen lemon cookies are the BOMB! Luckily this place is easy to get to, but far enough away to make a trip only 2-3 times a month. I will deff be back. The girl who took my order was super sweet, and helped me carry my purchases to my car b/c I had so much stuff. She said that her aunt owns the resturant, she gets five stars herself for such a helpful attitude! What a sweetie - and what a wonderful family resturant!!! If you're going here to pickup frozen items I suggest having a plan and eating before - otherwise you might get a little crazy!

Best and biggest selection of gluten-free foods I have ever seen in a restaurant. yay! I cannot begin to tell you how excited my fiance was to have fried mozzarella and calamari for the first time in the 4 years since he's gone gluten-free. Great experience. I wish it was in a less random area and bigger...had to wait for a while even with a reservation. Awesome place. Must try for any gluten-free eater!

I'm giving this one 4 stars because the pizza is phenomenal and I've been ordering it for delivery for some time now!!! My family decided to take my dad here for dinner tonight to celebrate fathers day which also happened to be his birthday this year. When we arrived the place was not very busy but knew they were expecting a rush from reservations that were coming in. We did not have a reservation but were pleased to be able to be seated. We started things off with baked clams and fried calamari both of which were amazing! Then things seemed to take a turn for the worst. As the place really filled up we waited for our entrees and waited and waited... This was a bit surprising since we were seated long before the rush. Our server told us the delay was due to the steak I had ordered hrmmm.... I ordered a special from the father's day menu which was ribeye with mushrooms, red pepper and a balsamic cream sauce which when it finally arrived was way overdone but at that point I didnt want to make a fuss or wait any longer for new food. My brother ordered Chicken vesuvio which he enjoyed again once we finally got our food and my father ordered the veal marsala which he said was average. My sister in law ordered a cheese pizza that finally arrived when the rest of us were already half way through our entrees good thing thier pizza rocks so it was sorta worth the wait. I don't understand why they had such problem with timing tonight. We saw plenty of other tables get served before us and we had already been there over 2 hours. I'll definately continue to order thier pizza since it's my number one choice for pizza but I think I'll pass on going to dine in again.

My darling boyfriend took me here because I can't eat gluten! We split the garlic bread, cheese ravioli, pasta with porcini mushrooms and cream sauce, cannoli, and tirimisu. All of these dishes were very good. I was especially excited about the garlic bread!!! It was like real bread! My boyfriend said it reminds him of an english muffin. It tastes like real bread. YUM. He bought me 3 more frozen orders to take home, and they cook up in the oven well. The leftover pasta was very good. The pasta fell apart a little, but the texture was still very good--not mushy. Also, we were seated promptly and didn't have to wait long for our food. The prices were very reasonable. The entrees are large and include a salad. They have a big menu of frozen or dried foods to take home. If you can't eat gluten, you should definitely eat here. EDIT: I have since eaten here a few more times. I am always well satisfied, and I have never gotten sick from it. If you can't eat gluten, I highly recommend buying some of their frozen cookies to take home. The lemon ones are awesome.

At a friends house for some late night drinking games and she has a genius idea of ordering their pizza. Amazing. Hot, fresh and bursting with flave. Love it!

The food is excellent, gluten free or not. Da Lucianos may not be high culture, but full of the vitality of culture and home-style Italian cooking. Portions are generous and the food is hearty. The gluten free lemon bars to go are amazing and mom swears by them. Mom can't eat gluten so this was a wonderful place to take her for her birthday. Staff was quite accommodating, preparing her a cake in advance and providing gluten free options prepared in a second kitchen in the back. I eat gluten all day long, but I've never had better cake. We drove 15 miles in the snow to get there and it was worth the commute! Da Luciano's is a must for celiacs out there, and a wonderful little family run Italian place in the northwest suburbs. Enjoy!!!

This is one of the best gluten-free restaurants I have ever tried. Their gluten-free menu is almost as large as their regular menu and it is the biggest gluten-free menu I have seen to date. This is the best Italian food I have had since I have been made aware of my illness. It tastes just as good, or better, than the normal Italian food I remember. This is a great place for group dinners. When I come home to Chicago it is the must do on my list for family and friends, none of whom have to eat gluten-free, but love both their normal and gluten-free food just the same! One of the best parts about this local family run restaurant is they have a large variety of foods that you can bring home with you so you can eat beautifully food made with love whenever you want. If you need a gluten-free cake they even make them to order! Celiac or not you will love this restaurant. If you don't live close the drive is well worth it. The Tiramisu (which you can also buy frozen to bring home) is enough to entice you into making a cross country flight. Don't let this place pass you by, you won't know how much you're missing!

For those of us on a gluten free diet, this is a great destination. The restaurant is small and there is often a wait on busy nights, so reservations are a good idea. It is a family owned restaurant, and the personal attention shows. They have gluten free pizza, pasta and desserts, all of which are fantastic. I had the pizza and it was very good. My friend had gluten free pasta and also enjoyed it. I would recommend this to anyone with a gluten free diet who misses the good stuff.

Hands down THE best italian food I've ever had. Portions are large. Prices are reasonable. And when I was observing a gluten-free diet, this place was heaven. Can't wait to go back when my parents are in town. My family is 100% italian and even grandma raved about this place.

Old world fine Italian food. Owners and servers are amazingly friendly and excellent. Far and away the best Veal in the city! Prices are very reasonable. Outstanding gluten-free menu. Look no further for authentic affordable Italian cuisine. This is the one!!

Wow! This place has one of the most extensive gluten-free menus I have come across at a restaurant. A classmate of mine who has Celiac told me about this place, raving about how good it was. I'm disappointed in myself for not trying it sooner because it was SO GOOD! I am not a huge fan of Italian food, but Da Luciano is my one exception. I ordered the GF Chicken Parm, GF tiramisu, and GF cannoli. GF Chicken Parm - came with a side of pasta. The breaded chicken and pasta were terrific! GF tiramisu - the BEST tiramisu I have ever had. Way better than any gluten-containing varities I have tried in the past. I don't normally like the taste of it, but I had to try it since so many Yelpers approved. They were definitely right. GF cannoli - I only had a bite of it, because if I ate the tiramisu and cannoli in one sitting, I would need to get a script for diabetes medication. It had a hint of orange flavor to it, which I'm not crazy about, but for what it was, it was good. I can't wait to eat here again in the future. I'm curious about every menu item now that I have had a taste.

We came here because of the gluten free menu. I can not say enough about this place. The staff is very attentive, the dining room is very comfortable. Parking seems very adequate. But most of all the gluten free food is over the top. I could point out so many positives but definite do not miss is the house made salad dressings. Especially the creamy garlic. You will want to eat it by the spoonful!!!!

Great thin pizza, fresh ingredients, and the chef is awesome... Hard to get a table on Fridays and Saturday nights so be ready to wait like an hour or make a reservation... Good date spot

Came here with the family to celebrate my dad's birthday. This is their FAVORITE Italian place. I also give this joint props for having such an extensive gluten-free selection of yummies. I had the shrimp diavolo linguine and my fiance had a seafood special (mixture of seafood with linguine in a garlic-oil sauce). Both were tasty. I have to say that this place is a good pasta-heavy option for people who like Italian comfort food. I think the friendliness of the owners and waitstaff kick it up another notch above your regular pasta place. Good food!

My Husband and I came here for an impromptu meal the other night. We have been having lots of issues finding gluten free options for my hubs. He has been unable to eat out because of his dietary restrictions. Da Luciano's was a drive but 100% worth the short drive. This is a cozy restaurant that is bustling with gluten free and non gluten free people just enjoying the amazing food. We didn't have a reservation so we had to wait a little bit but we didn't mind waiting. We observed the cook and owner walking around, kissing customers on the cheek, the chef checking on how everyone liked their food. My kind of place. I always appreciate that gesture. I had the rigatoni boscaiola and the hubs had the gf chicken parm. The food was unbelievable. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was creamy and jam packed with flavor and love. My husband truely enjoyed the gf chicken parmigiano. He said that even if he wasn't eating gluten free, he still would love to eat that ten times over. I mean i love how they have a dedicated menu just for gluten free items. I love how they cater to people with all different kinds of tastes. The service was good and he had his suggestions that helped me (Mrs. Indecisive) make my final decision. Prices weren't bad and very easy to get to. They have a parking lot next to the building. I can't wait for the next time we can eat here. I had a fantastic meal through and through.

Very good family owned business. Their seafood plates rock and their bread basket is a very nice touch. Instead of Olive Garden go to a family-owned business such as this. You will get great food plus good service!!

Best gluten free options. Food is excellent ! Mots everything made by them. Family members with celiac inspired menu and that translates into real Italian favorites like lasagna that are reliably gluten free and traditional northern Italian American tasty food. Whether Gutenberg free or not I recommend this nice, very reasonably priced restaurant because the servers and staff were great, serving delish food at a reasonable price. What more can you ask?

Great place , great service , great food and a great price . Italian at its best and its local.. The owner is a nice guy and makes sure your meal is up to par. I've been here a dozen times and it has never let me down. Tip : not on the menu pollo balsamico . A very unique dish... Desert ..the cannoli has held up as best I've ever had ... Try it you'll love it.

My husband must eat gluten free, and I do the same for safety sake. We have been to Da Luciano's with family and friends numerous times. Every time - and I mean every time - everyone loved the food. I like the atmosphere - simple and cute. The GF ravioli is amazing, and my wheat-eating friends liked the GF cannolli better than the regular. Food is great - service is very good!!

This is 1 of the friendliest restaurants that River Grove has to offer. They are typically busy, which is a great problem to have. You may have to wait a few minutes to be seated, but if they offer you the patio - please accept. I've dined inside and outside and have had wonderful service every time. Not to mention, they usually bring out waters and bread/butter, which is a must. My little family and I have slowly been exploring and experimenting with the seafood dishes and appetizers and we're always satisfied. I will try the pasta, soon/someday. Parking is easy and available. Pricing is right. What else can I say? I'll be back! (in arnold schwarzneger's voice)

Undeniably delicious food. I've never had a bad meal. The restaurant's expansion a few years ago solved a lot of the space issues. The staff is very friendly and the owners are often floating around the room mingling with diners. Great local place. Also worth the drive if you're coming from the city and have guests who need to eat gluten-free.

My wife and I have come here a bunch of times because of their outstanding variety in gluten free. A lot can be said about how great their gluten free menu is, but we went in with a group of 12 people last night and they were great at serving us, keeping our bread bowls and cups full and bringing out all of our food out at the same time. This was the first time here for the rest of our group, but we may have started a new tradition for a few people. Well done Luciano!

  • Colin F.

Yes, the gluten-free menu here is amazing, and so is the fact that they have a dedicated gluten-free kitchen and educated staff. However, I have been eating here with my wife for longer than I've been diagnosed with the celiac gene, and gluten-free or no it is some of the best, most authentic and delicious Italian food I've ever had. Their seasonings are well balanced, their seafood tastes fresh year-round, and their service has always been friendly and accommodating. They are regularly very busy because of the quality of their food and the fact that THIS IS A FAMILY-OWNED RESTAURANT WITH A MASSIVE, DEDICATED GLUTEN-FREE MENU, so we usually call ahead just in case, even on weeknights. They are polite and accommodating, but BUSY. And why not? Their food is great, good for them that they're busy. Bottom line, this is a great family-owned Italian joint with amazing food, friendly people, and a low-key atmosphere. Heaven for celiacs. Food - 5 Service - 4.5 Wait times - 4.5 Pricing - A little on the pricey side, but not unfair.

A great neighborhood restaurant. Good food, great staff, lovely owners. I really like their outdoor patio. Since they expanded their space it is a lot easier to get seated but there may still be a wait on the weekends.

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. This is a busy restaurant, but we managed to get a table shortly after arriving without a reservation. The staff was very nice and accommodating. It did take awhile for our waiter to come take our order.. maybe it's the culture that we're not used to? My husband and I chatted for awhile before they came to take our drink and appetizer order. The complimentary bread took awhile to get to our table, too. We noticed it was a delay for other tables around us as well, so we thought it could just be the culture that we're not used to. After our appetizer came, we still haven't placed our entree order. Our waiter did come and tell us that he'll be back with us.. it took maybe 10 minutes before he came back to take our entree order. We were already finished with our appetizer. He was a very nice waiter, though. I ordered the rigatoni alls tuscans (rigatoni with mushroom and light cream sauce). I enjoyed it. It was good. My husband ordered their special - forgot the name of it but it was pretty much pounded meat on top of fettucini with sauce. He said the sauce was too salty for his liking, so he ate most of my noodles. The seafood stuffed mushroom appetizer that we ordered were good. My husband didn't enjoy his food too much because the sauce was too salty for him to enjoy. We ended the night with tiramisu to go home with. That was decent. He gave this restaurant a 3, I would give it a 4..since Yelp doesn't do .5 rating since I would give this a 3.5, I would put this close to a 3 due to the slow service. Don't get me wrong - they are very nice..they treat you like family/friends, but it took quite awhile before we got our food and place our orders for food.

Love this place! Best pasta you can get in my area. And they have a great menu of gluten free food. Love that it is family owned and sometimes the owners come out and chat with you. They make you feel right at home! I will always come here when I'm looking for some pasta.

Our "go-to" Italian Family Restaurant and a perfect pick if you dine out with people who need (or want) to avoid gluten. Homey atmosphere with very well executed Italian favorites. Perfect pasts, pizzas and some of the best calamari and cannolis, There is a separate menu (and kitchen) for gluten-free diners. I love that you can also pick up gluten-free packaged pasta or housemade cookies to serve at home. A real neighborhood gem worth traveling to. A great, albeit small, enclosed patio, is our favorite spot during the summer.

    1. Portions are good. 2. Red sauce is good. 3. Parking is good. 4. Prices are high. 5. Service is hap hazard. 6. Air condition needs to be turned up on a hot day. 7. Please promptly seat guests waiting at the front door or at least acknowledge them. 8. Be friendly and greet ALL customers. Not just the regulars. 9. Decor is nice. 10. Smile.

We order here at least once every two weeks! Pizza is always amazing! And everyone is super nice there. We ordered some stuff on super bowl and the delivery driver was super apologetic for the wait, which wasn't that long especially with the weather that day. And today I asked for a heart shaped pizza not really expecting them to do it. But they did and I'm so happy for that because I know it's a pain in the butt specially on this day lol thank you so much!!!!

I hosted a group at Da Luciano again last night. We went there after the heavy rains hit and Luciano and his staff could not have been more accommodating. We wanted to be on the patio, so they toweled off the tables and chairs and we had a wonderful evening of their fantastic Italian food on the serene back patio. I have eaten at more than 400 restaurants in the Chicago area, and this is my favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant (and it is 15 miles from my neighborhood but worth the drive).

I love this place. We normally order delivery but went in. I had a special - eggplant stuffed with sausage...was supposed to be appetizer but I ordered as my meal. Was amazing! My man had chicken limone...always good. We had enough for lunch the next day. Thumbs up.

Food is always good but when it comes to picking up orders, it always gets messed up. This time, they forgot my salad, the garlic bread was hard as a rock and the food was cold. I had to reheat it myself for 10mins. I didn't know I had to do their job. The food is so delicious and that's why I don't like to leave a negative review. They said pick up is 40mins...but our food was ready at 30mins. So who knows how long it was sitting there before we got there. Today was not a good service day for them.

I thought I died and went to Italy! You're not in River Grove, IL anymore when you dine here as the atmosphere takes you the closest you can get to Italy without actually being there. The food is authentic and the Ravioli is delicious with a nice sized serving. And, the prices are super reasonable for all that you get. I'll definitely go back....

I was soo excited to try this place! I've been hearing about Da Luciano's since I was diagnosed with celiac over four years ago. After recently stumbling upon them on Yelp and looking at their gluten free menu, I put it on my lists of restaurants to try as soon as possible. They have a lot of things you won't be able to find gluten free anywhere else, and just looking at their menu online made me hungry! However, my actual experience left me with mixed feelings. I finally went last weekend, and I didn't make a reservation early enough so we ended up having to do carry-out. This was kind of a bummer, but I understand that they're busy, and the dining area isn't that big. When we got there, the line was out the door, and we had to struggle to get through all the people waiting to be seated! I noticed they had a lot of dry pasta and baked goods for sale, but I didn't get a chance to look around because it was so crowded. My boyfriend and I ordered the gluten free mozzarella sticks, gluten free garlic bread, and gluten free ravioli to share. We started eating the mozzarella sticks and garlic bread in the car on the way home, and frankly, I wasn't that impressed. The gluten free garlic bread was soggy and bland-- and I started eating it right when we were still in the parking lot! It didn't taste like cardboard (which is all too common with gluten free bread), but it was nowhere near the standards of glutenated food. The gluten free mozzarella sticks were better than the ones i've tried to make at home, but that's really not saying much. The best part was definitely the ravioli, even though it was a little cold by the time we got it home. It was almost exactly how I remember glutenated ravioli tasting! I don't know if I'm missing something, but I just didn't get the crazy in-love feeling that other people seem to have! The food was okay, but it certainly wasn't anything special when it comes to gluten-free dining. I think I might give Da Luciano's another try and see if the food is better if you dine-in, but it's not high on my priority list. Unless I'm really craving ravioli or mozzarella sticks, I think I can find better gluten free food closer to home.

I wish I could say I loved the food. . But I honestly didn't. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs, and they tasted like they were out of the can. Exactly like spaghettios. I ordered the rigatoni vodka and it was disappointing. Not completely terrible, just disappointing. Perhaps because they are gluten conscious (which is great ) and I am not accustomed to gluten free Italian food? Perhaps my palate is accustomed to more robust authentic Italian food? I don't really know. My sister bragged about the food so much I just cannot understand how my experience was not as great as hers. I did think the Bruschetta and Canoli was delicious though, so that's something. I cannot speak for the service because I've never been there (we ordered delivery) but I must say that Michelle (the woman who took the order) was beyond sweet and the food only took about 30 minutes to arrive. I just wish I enjoyed it more. Three stars for the great canoli, sweet Michelle, and the Bruschetta.

I live in San Francisco. My partners family is in Chicago. Da Lucianos make our trips not only manageable but also exciting and something to look forward to. I wasn't sure what to expect on my first visit. We were there to meet some of the dining partners old high school friends. The dinner was amazing, the company even better. Mama Rose came over to say hi and our waiter was top notch. I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat, so I let him decide for us. That's the way to go. Our meals were fantastic - I had ravioli and garlic bread and B had veal parm. It's not easy to find a place like this. I have celiac disease and am much more sensitive than most others I know. I love coming here and not having to worry. I can just enjoy the food and company. Above all else, that's key for me. I can't do that most places. Mama Rose invited us back to try some *gasp* deep dish gluten free pizza. We actually came with a large group and then dashed off to get on our flight home. The family was very impressed with the pasta and other dishes. They didn't get much of the pizzas because I hogged them, and then brought them back to SF with me. There's really nothing else to say. This place is as good as it gets. AND it knows gluten free because it's a personal issue for the owners. Luciano, it's time for you to open a restaurant in SF :) I'll be there every day.

    Small, maybe 8 tables. But despite that fact, when my fiancee (my wife now, but apparently this review had been saved on my Yelp 3 years ago) was late and I had to push the reservation back 30 minutes, they were very accommodating. And you can really tell this is a family affair. Pictures of the family (and some customers) are on the walls. When it started easing up, you see the owner/chef in the dining area, having a meal with his wife. We were 3 people, had Veal Limone, Chicken Limone, and Veal Piccante. The food was delicious and simple. We also had a plate of Mostaciolli Arabiatta for the table. It was nice and spicy. This is a family atmosphere where you cannot possibly have anything but a good time. The tiramisu for dessert was excellent, so was the espresso. Even though we didn't even tell them it was my father's 65th birthday, they saw that my fiancee was giving him a gift and so got him a cupcake with a candle. My favorite part? The waiter asking us, "Do you want to sing?" No special song here with hats and silly lyrics;

When you're here, you're treated like family, especially if one of your friends knows the restaurant owner. But even then, it's old school Italian - tough looking but kindly servers and enormous portions of food. A buddy of mine took me here just before my flight back home, and we feasted on a heaping portion of calamari, minestrone soup, chicken cacciatore, and chicken marsala. Of course, I wasn't able to finish my portion, so I left the rest to my buddy for lunch the next day. The service was efficient, especially after our waiter learned that my flight was leaving shortly. We had our calamari out about 5 minutes after our order was put in, the minestrone soup a few minutes after the calamari plate was done, and our chicken dishes right after the soup. Everything was piping hot and tasted quite authentic. I wish I could have enjoyed some wine and the ambiance a bit more, but given my timeline, nothing could be done. Next time I'm in the Chicago area, I'll be back and ready to eat the whole plate!

Went here with some friends for dinner because of their gluten free menu (for me). This place made me so happy. Not only do they have gluten free pasta but they also have gluten free desserts and appetizers like garlic bread and calamari. Calamari!! I ordered the GF meat ravioli and my boyfriend ordered the GF lasagna, both for us to split. The GF ravioli was a little dry even with the sauce, but honestly I was so happy to have it again that it didn't bother me. The GF lasagna however was amazing. Amazing. Go get it. Right. Now. We also ordered the garlic bread and calamari. Both were amazing. We were so full we didn't get to try the desserts but I remember they offered GF tiramisu, which I'm definitely getting next time as well as cupcakes. I think there were other options as well but those were the ones I was excited about. My friends got regular pizza and they seemed to really like it. I also really liked that the waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and timed everything perfectly so that our food all came out at the same time. I'm also lactose intolerant and the waiter was helpful in letting me know which entrees and appetizers had cream sauces and I was able to switch any to a marinara. Overall I'm very happy with Da Luciano and definitely plan to come back. Oh! I remember when we were walking out that I saw they sell dry GF pasta as well.

This. Place. Is. Awesome. I try to avoid gluten like the plague and it is awesome having this place so close. It's a bit pricey for takeout but you definitely get what you pay for. Their gluten free cannolis are amazing. We've only ordered from here (never eaten in) and it's always been a positive experience. My family has had the non-gluten free options and raved about them. My dad said the Chicken Vesuvio was the best he's ever had and he comes from a big Italian family. Hoping to one day try this place out in person. This is a mecca for individuals looking for delicious gluten free options!

Would give 2.5 stars. 5 stars for the food, 1 star for the way the restaurant is being run. Food is fantastic. I'm not even gluten-free and I thought the GF tiramisu was excellent. However, there are some major issues with the communication and the customer service 1) The menu says for parties of 6 more, gratuity is included. The waiter took the itemized receipt away when we were signing for payment. But just to be sure that we were in fact tipping him, we checked with the hostess -- is there gratuity included in our check? "yes, yes," she said. We added more on top since the service had been great. But at the end of the evening, the waiter comes over to PUBLICLY and LOUDLY complain that we didn't tip him. Turns out, he decided NOT to charge us gratuity, "it's really up to the server," he said. Yet the menu and the hostess told us otherwise. Though I think it is good he said something rather than get shorted, it was very embarrassing and completely his fault to not communicate from the beginning, or leave us the itemized bill to confirm. He also should have taken one of us aside instead of making a scene and ruining a birthday meal. We ended up tipping him more than 25% but the whole situation was ugly. 2) We had a reservation but had to wait 15 minutes while they set up a folding table as our table. 2) hung coat on the coat rack -- the only coat rack on a snowy day. But because they decided to shove another table beneath the coat rack, it was in the way of customers. And upon leaving, I realized my coat went missing. Hostess had taken it behind the table.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
